“Evening Walks” is an autoethnographic work exploring themes of placemaking, memory, and community. It began in 2021, when I left my “upper caste” family home to move into a studio apartment in Kolkata, India. During this period of flux, I started going out on evening walks with my camera to familiarise myself with my new neighbourhood. In both physical and psychological senses, this journey became a form of healing as I grew increasingly curious about ideas of family and belonging.

Soon after building a space I could call my own, I moved to the United Kingdom in 2023. Here, I transformed my archive into a handmade photo book. This 91-page book combines 41 colour images produced on my walks with journal entries written over three years. I collaborated with Dr Val Williams and researcher Chandni Sai Ganesh in sequencing and editing the book, respectively.
